Positional Accuracy Improvement
When you have digital vector cartography plus a suitable set of control points distributed in the ground, it is possible to perform transformations more sophisticated than the mere rubber-sheeting in order to fit the data, transforming in a single step all the map.
The same transformation is applied to all layers, so topological relations are fully preserved. In addition, it can be applied later to other layers without requiring access to the full dataset.
Such technology will improve the planimetric accuracy of the map while keeping under control the updating cost. In addition, it will highlight areas where you should focus the manual improvement of the original cartography.
